Rotary battles maternal, child mortality, trains health workers

To reduce incidents of maternal and neo-natal mortality in the Southwest region of the country, Rotary District 9110, has trained family planning providers in selected secondary health facilities Ogun, Lagos and Oyo States.
Speaking at a two-day workshop in Abeokuta on Reduction of Maternal and Child Morbidity and Mortality, Host Project Contact and the Past District Governor of the club, Adeniji Raji, said the initiative was to ensure safe pregnancy, delivery, the survival of children and also address issues on family planning. Raji stressed the need for men to support their wives on family planning, advising them to cooperate with the government in promoting safe delivery for women.
According to him, the index of maternal and child mortality has remained a cause of worry, noting that having access to proper trained health attendants at health centres, could reduce the threat and assist in unraveling the causes of maternal deaths.
