Niger Gov Warns Officials Against Playing Politics With Healthcare

Miffed by the refusal of some government agencies to effectively distribute drugs to health centres, Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has warned his appointees against playing politics with what has direct bearing with the lives of the people.
 

The governor  in continuation of his midterm assessment tour yesterday to Baddegi in Katcha local government area , expressed dissatisfaction with what he met on ground at Hajiya Mumbai Aliyu maternal and child health center in the town.
 

Maternal Health: Saraki’s wife advocates data collection for better health care system

Wife of the Senate President, Mrs Toyin Saraki has advocated for better health and gender data collection to allow families and health professionals track the progress of a pregnancy, register birth and record immunisation and health information.
Mrs Saraki, who is the founder and president of the Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA), made the advocacy in a keynote address she delivered at the Cambridge-Africa day hosted by the University of Cambridge, Emmanuel College, United Kingdom.

National Health Act: NMA threatens legal action against FG

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has threatened to take legal action against the Federal Government for failing to include the provisions of the National Health Act (NHA) in the 2017 budget.

 

Dr Mike Ogirima, President of the association, hinted at a stakeholders’ advocacy and awareness walk for implementation of provisions of the NHA organised by NMA on Wednesday in Abuja.

Stakeholders at the 2016 Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) annual physicians week have demanded for a 15 per cent budget allocation to boost the country’s healthcare delivery.

 

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme for this year’s celebration is: “Healthcare in a frail economy: Challenges and way forward’’.
