SPECIAL REPORT: Checking the increasing rate of unsafe abortions

The World Health Organisation observes that out of more than 56 million cases of abortions that take place globally each year, almost half of the cases are done through unsafe procedures.
 
It notes further that between 2010 and 2014, there were 55.7 million abortion cases every year and out of these, 17.1 million cases were unsafe.
 

‘Stop Contraceptive Stock-Out To End Unplanned Pregnancies’

Worried by stock-out of contraceptive commodities and consumables, experts at the Performance Monitoring and Accountability (PMA) 2020, a recent family planning (FP) review, advocated increased funding for FP by state governments.
 
In view of high incidence of unplanned pregnancies, Funmi Olaolorun, the Co-Principal Investigator, PMA 2020, stressed that increased funding by state governments would  tackle  stock-out of contraceptive commodities and consumables in many states.

Lack of proper adoption of family planning methods among Nigerians leads to 610,000 abortions annually in Nigeria says jhpiego.

 

Addressing pressmen in Abuja on October 20, 2016, Emmanuel Otolorin, the country director of Jhpiego, an international non-profit health organization affiliated to Johns Hopkins University stated that 36 million abortions occur worldwide annually. And Nigeria accounts for 610,000 of the act.
