• Breastfeeding Protects Infants From Childhood Illnesses — Experts
As World Breastfeeding Week is observed, medical experts have urged mothers to breastfeed their babies, as breast milk provides infants with needed nutrients.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) recommends exclusive breastfeeding, starting within one hour after birth until a baby is six months old. Nutritious complementary foods should then be added, while continuing to breastfeed for up to two years or beyond.

End Obstetric Fistula, save women’s lives

With about 500,000 Nigerian women living with obstetric fistula, women need to avail themselves with regular medical check up to prevent health complications, including fistula, that could lead to death of mothers.  As Nigeria commemorates the World Fistula day today there is a need for collective action to get appropriate treatment to avoid the needless debilitating conditions and death that could result from pregnancy and childbirth complications in the country.

Nigeria requires $12m yearly for family planning, lifesaving drugs

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) says Nigeria requires between $12 million and $16 million yearly to procure family planning commodities and lifesaving drugs.

 

 

Of this figure, the Ministry of Health has pledged to budget $3 million for next year.Executive Director of the UNFPA, Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin stated this in a statement at the end of his visit to Nigeria.
