We can’t progress if women, children health is ignored – Mrs Ayade

CALABAR –The wife of the governor of Cross River state, Mrs. Linda Ayade has asserted that Nigeria cannot prosper if the health of women and children was not made a top priority by government at all levels.

Baby dies in suspicious circumstances as mother gives birth unassisted

The Ebonyi State Police Command, on Wednesday, said that a lady in her late 30s, allegedly killed her baby boy in the process of delivery in Abakaliki, the state capital.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, the lady sustained injuries while trying to forcefully deliver herself of the baby.
She added that the woman was currently receiving treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

Ekiti moves to end maternal, child deaths

The Commissioner for Health in Ekiti State, Dr Mojisola Yaya-Kolade, said on Wednesday that the state government was taking concrete steps to end the high rate of maternal and infant mortality in the state.
Yaya-Kolade said training of health professionals was crucial in the move to ensure the reduction in the high maternal mortality rate in the state.

Taraba to spend N30m on family planning Darius Ishaku, Taraba state governor. The Taraba Government has earmarked N30 million for Family Planning (FP) services in its 2019 budget, Dr Ahmed Kara, the Director, Hospital Services in the state Ministry of Health, has said. Kara disclosed this on Tuesday in Jalingo at the opening of a two-day “Budget Tracking, Monitor and Process Training and Advocacy Core Group Work Plan Development Meeting’’. Kara is also the Chairman of the Advocacy Core Group (ACG) of FP in the state.

Following public outrage, the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige has walked back on his dismissive statement that the rate at which Nigerian doctors emigrate is a positive development for the country. “We have a surplus…If you have a surplus, you export…They (doctors) go out, sharpen their skills, earn money and send them back home here. We have foreign exchange earnings from them. Indians are doing it,” Ngige had said while responding to a question on Channels Television last week.

Dr Betta Edu, Director General, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Cross River State, has said that communal clashes in some parts of the state were hindering full immunisation coverage.
Edu said this in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Saturday in Calabar while commemorating the World Immunisation and Africa Vaccination Week.
The Week, with its 2019 theme “Protected Together: Vaccine Work”, is celebrated in the last week of April with the aim of promoting the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against vaccine-preventable diseases.
