Madamai is a village in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State. The community, located on a rocky terrain, is some three hours away from Kaduna main town; the community lacks healthcare centre, good road, schools and portable drinking water.
The journey to Madamai community which should ordinarily be a five minutes’ drive takes 20 to 25 minutes because of the bad roads which the residents say contributes to the death of many women in the area, especially those in labour.
Gombe: Group Advocate 15% Budget Allocation To Health Sector
Gombe State Accountability Mechanism for Maternal and Newborn and Child Health (GoSAM) has urged the state government to increase budget of Health sector from 8.5 to 15 percent based on the Abuja declaration in April 2001.

NYSC Offers Free Healthcare Services In Katsina
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has offered free medical services to over 1,000 rural dwellers in Doro village, Bindawa Local Government Area of Katsina State under its Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD).
Mr John Okpo, the state NYSC Coordinator, disclosed this while monitoring the programme on Monday in the area.
Health Minister, UNICEF, Others Urge Actions To Curb Child Mortality
Health Minister, Prof. Isaac Adewole, on Monday, remarked that the country’s mortality in children Under-Five “is still very unacceptable’’.
In his remarks at the advocacy meeting on reproductive health in Abuja, organised by the office of the wife of the President, the minister stressed the urgency for the government to invest in health as it did in other infrastructure.
He said the administration was focusing attention on the basic health care system and intended to achieve eight million person target in three years.
COWLSO Donates ICU, Medical Equipment To General Hospitals
n a bid to stem maternal mortality rate, the Committee of Wives of Lagos State Official, COWLSO, has donated an Intensive Care Unit, ICU to the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital and Neo-natal hearing screening equipment to four General Hospitals in the state.
The General Hospitals are Gbagada, Ifako-Ijaiye, Ikorodu and Badagry. The equipment were donated on Wednesday at the officials commissioning of the ICU at the Lagos Island Maternity Hospital on Lagos Island, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
UNFPA gets 5th Executive Director
UN Secretary-General António Guterres has appointed Dr Natalia Kanem, a Panamanian, as the fifth Executive Director of UN Population Fund (UNFPA) according to a statement.
The statement by Mrs Kori Habib, the Media Associate of UNFPA Nigeria on Wednesday in Abuja, stated that “Kanem holds the rank of UN Under-Secretary-General.”
Anambra Govt Will Eliminate Maternal, Infant Mortality – Commissioner
The Anambra Commissioner for Health, Dr Josephat Akabuike, on Wednesday said the state government was determined to eliminate maternal and infant mortality in the state.
Akabuike spoke at a programme tagged: “Saving One Million Lives For Results” organised by the Ministry of Health for mission and private hospitals in Abagana Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
