About Us

'NOTAGAIN' is a National Campaign slogan initiated by a number of Civil Society Organisations to create demand for government commitment and accountability to maternal health in Nigeria.

This portal is aimed at creating awareness about maternal health situation in Nigeria by facilitating the communications between media professionals, civil society groups, and the public to collectively demand accountability in maternal health service delivery.

The project started in November 2013 with support from John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and will run through 2016 in selected states in Nigeria where the grantees operate.

There is no gain saying that Nigerian women still die needless deaths in trying to give birth to lives, despite government promises  to improving the state of Maternal Newborn and Child Health. Although several programs have been put in place to help reduce the burden, the progress made is not commensurate with the maternal mortality ratio of 576/100,000 births (NDHS 2013). This is worrisome and calls for government action to fulfill their promises. This is a critical period to the Millennium Development Goals 2015 and all hands must be on deck if Nigeria is to achieve set targets.

Against the above background, there is no better time than now for civil societies and media to work together since both have roles to play in demanding transparency and accountability.
