Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, over the weekend raised a fresh alarm over Nigeria’s rate of population growth.
 
According to him, if the rate was unchecked, the explosion in the nation’s population would impact negatively on the country’s economy and welfare.
 
To this end, Adewole called for the use of Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWS) to address the problems of shortage and misdistribution of manpower needed for the provision of access to family planning services in rural communities and other hard to reach areas.

The minister told a gathering of laboratory scientists on Tuesday in Kaduna that the Federal Government would strengthen existing mechanisms to prevent quacks from taking over the health system.
 
The minister spoke at the opening of the 53rd National Scientific Conference of Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria.
 

The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has said the federal government has concluded plans to improve the standard of midwifery practices in the country.
 
This is coming as a Nollywood actor and producer, Jim Iyke, was unveiled as the Special Envoy/Goodwill Ambassador for Maternal, Newborn and Child health.
 
Adewole made this known yesterday during the commemoration of the 2017 International Day of the Midwife (IDM) in Abuja.
