During the 60th  National Conference onHealth, NCH, Project Director, Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI), Dr Mojisola Odeku, speaks about the essence of The Challenge Initiative, TCI. Excerpts.
 
The Challenge Initiative, TCI, is doing business in an unusual way. It’s really nothing new but a practical way of ensuring that the owners of the land take it back for themselves with us just providing the light technical assistance.
 

The Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre (CISLAC) commends the on-going effort by the Kano State Government in collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) at renovating the dilapidated Dausara Primary Health Care Centre, in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano state which had suffered from long-time policy neglect, rendering the facility monumentally inefficient to discharge maternal and child healthcare services.
 

A member of Enugu State House of Assembly, Dr Emeka Ogbuobor, has criticised the 2007 free Maternal and Child Healthcare Programme (FMCH), describing it as ambiguous, flawed with chaos and confusion.
 

Ogbuobor, representing Isi-Uzo constituency and Chairman, House Committee on Health, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Tuesday that the programme was no longer working.
 

Ogbuobor said that the programme needed to be revived and streamlined because its  impact on the poor was enormous.
 

Over 1.6 million malnourished children are in Kaduna state, according to the United Nation Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

Florence Oni, UNICEF’s nutrition specialist, disclosed this while presenting the state’s intervention score card at a two-day mid-year review meeting in Kaduna.

The figure shows the state has the highest number of malnourished children in Nigeria.
